My favorite screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image.
たくさんある版画技法の中でも私の一番好きなシルクスクリーン。孔版画の技法の一種であり、インクが通過する穴とインクが通過しないところを作ることで版画の版を製版し、印刷する技法です。

MONOTYPE is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The surface, or matrix, was historically a copper etching plate, but in contemporary work it can vary from zinc or glass to acrylic glass. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together, usually using a printing-press. Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to create a subtractive image, e.g. creating lights from a field of opaque colour. The inks used may be oil based or water based.
Monotyping produces a unique print, or monotype; most of the ink is removed during the initial pressing. Although subsequent reprintings are sometimes possible, they differ greatly from the first print and are generally considered inferior. These prints from the original plate are called "ghost prints."
A MONOPRINTS is a single impression of an image made from a reprintable block. Materials such as metal plates, litho stones or wood blocks are used for etching upon. Rather than printing multiple copies of a single image, only one impression may be produced, either by painting or making a collage on the block. Etching plates may also be inked in a way that is expressive and unique in the strict sense, in that the image cannot be reproduced exactly. Monoprints may also involve elements that change, where the artist reworks the image in between impressions or after printing so that no two prints are absolutely identical. Monoprints may include collage, hand-painted additions, and a form of tracing by which thick ink is laid down on a table, paper is placed on top and is then drawn on, transferring the ink onto the paper. Monoprints can also be made by altering the type, color, and pressure of the ink used to create different prints.
版画技法の一種。ガラス、金属板、アクリル、塩ビ板など平滑な支持体に図を描画し、乾燥前にその上に紙を載せてからこするかプレス機にかけることで図を転 写します。彫りなどの製版作業が不要であること、等質の刷りを繰り返すことができないため呼称の通り一枚のみ(Mono/モノ=ギリシャ語で「単一」の意味)の作品となることが特徴であり、複数性を大きな特徴とする版画にあっては特異な技法です。結果は方法によって多様ですが、版を介すことで直接描画するだけでは得られないかすれや奥行きが生まれます。
類似の用語に「モノプリント」があります(同義語とされる場合もある)が、こちらは手彩色やコラージュを加えて一点ものとした版画や、版の脆弱性や可変性のため印刷が反復不能な版画を指します。
In this series, I tried to see how much variety I could make with one screen printing image and different backgrounds in monotype. I thought it would be fun to have more color choices to suit different viewers' tastes, like choosing the color of clothes.
このシリーズは、図像を写す目的で生まれた版画技法の特徴を残しつつも、色を変えることで一枚一枚を全く違う雰囲気に仕上げ、重複印刷でどれだけ見る側に与える印象を変えられるか試みた作品です。例えば同じ服でもその人が装うにはふさわしいカラーがあるように、同じテーマでも飾る空間によって違うカラーの選択肢があれば楽しいと思うのです。
Etching is the process of using strong acid or mordant to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal (the original process—in modern manufacturing other chemicals may be used on other types of material). As an intaglio method of printmaking, it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains in wide use today.
Viscosity Print is an intaglio method whereby multiple colors of ink may be printed simultaneously from the same plate, utilizing inks of varying viscosity, plates with multiple levels of etching and hard and soft brayers for applying the inks to the plate.
Mezzotint is a printmaking process of the intaglio family, technically a drypoint method. It was the first tonal method to be used, enabling half-tones to be produced without using line- or dot-based techniques like hatching, cross-hatching or stipple. Mezzotint achieves tonality by roughening the plate with thousands of little dots made by a metal tool with small teeth, called a "rocker." In printing, the tiny pits in the plate hold the ink when the face of the plate is wiped clean. A high level of quality and richness in the print can be achieved.
銅版画とは、銅版の表面に作った凹部(溝)に油性インクを詰めて刷る「凹版画」の一種です。(銅版画の代わりにアルミ版・亜鉛版を使うこともある)
エッ チングetching(英語)とは、オー・フォルトeau-forte(仏語)、アクワ・フォルテaqua-forte(伊)ともいわれ、プレート面を防食膜(グランド)で被覆し、その被覆をニードルなどでかき取り、酸に浸すなどして腐食させて凹部をつくる技法のことです。(版を直接ひっかいて溝を作る ことは、エングレーヴィング又はドライポイントと呼ばれる技法)
ヴィスコシティ技法とは、一つの版から一度に複数色を刷る方法で、それぞれのインクの異なる粘度、版の異なる凹の深さ、ブライヤー(ロール)の異なる表面の固さ、柔らかさを利用して凸版技法の一つです。
メゾチントとは、凹版で銅板に櫛歯状の彫刻刀で縦横斜めに線を入れ、黒面を作りスクレーパーで削って白面を作り作描する技法です。
Lithography (from Ancient Greek, lithos, meaning "stone") is a method of printing originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water. Printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a smooth surface. Lithography originally used an image drawn with oil, fat, or wax onto the surface of a smooth, level lithographic limestone plate. The stone was treated with a mixture of acid and gum arabic, etching the portions of the stone that were not protected by the grease-based image. When the stone was subsequently moistened, these etched areas retained water; an oil-based ink could then be applied and would be repelled by the water, sticking only to the original drawing. The ink would finally be transferred to a blank paper sheet, producing a printed page.
石版画。(Litho/リト=ギリシャ語で「石」の意味。)平版。石または金属の板に油性の描画材で絵を描き、弱酸性溶液を塗ると、化学変化を起こして描かれた部分は油性物質を引きつけ、描かれていない部分は水分が残されます。この版を水で湿らせて油性インクを乗せると、描いた部分にのみインクが付着し、描かれていない部分は水分によってインクが弾かれて残らず、これを刷るという技法です。
Gum arabic transfers are also known as paper plate lithography or xerox lithography. You can use it to create your own background papers or you can use photographs or other favorite imagery in your transfers. Your black-and-white toner copy becomes your litho plate. I used xerox photocopied papers for the prints on this page.

In relief printing, a reduction print is a multicolor print in which the separate colors printed from the same block at different stages. Usually, the lightest color of the design is printed first, then the block is "reduced" by carving to the areas which the artist wants to print the second color from, and so forth. The disadvantage of reduction printing as opposed to printing from multiple blocks is that once the first color is printed, the matrix for it is destroyed in the creation of the printing matrix for the second color. It is impossible to undo mistakes.
一つの版を彫り進めながら、そのつど刷っていく多色版画の方法です。版が進むにつれ刷る面積が減少していくので、初めに刷った枚数以上は刷れませんし、刷り増しも不可能。つまり、この版画は二度とできない限定版です。
